Alyssa Dodson brings a unique diverse background to her practice of Structural Integration. Her first career as a professional dancer in New York City spanned from 1987-2001. While dancing she worked as a Private Personal Trainer/Yoga teacher for ten years designing workouts to fit the individual needs and interests of each client. In 1996 she certified under Julio Horvath in the Gyrotonic System of exercise and taught his sophisticated technique for two years before joining the Martha Graham Dance Company. As a teacher, Ms. Dodson has taught at NYU, Interlochen School for the Arts, and The Tanglewood Music Center of Boston Symphony. It was here that she became interested in training opera singers, conductors and instrumentalist in improving their body mechanics, and posture. She created movement vocabulary for each artist's needs either for a performance or general maintenance.
Alyssa discovered Structural Integration while dancing with the Martha Graham Company. Structural Integration improved her dance technique, facilitated her flexibility, supported her endurance and kept her body injury free for her remaining years as a dancer. After leaving dance, she attended the Guild for Structural Integration in Boulder Colorado and became a practitioner in February 2002. Her practice draws on not only her training as a Structural Integrationist but all her previous years of interest in the human body and its myriad ways of establishing order and balance. She currently studies bio-mechanics and visceral techniques with Advanced Practitioner Liz Gaggini. Since July 2007 she has been assisting Liz Gaggini in both her visceral and bio-mechanic classes.
