What is Structural Integration?

Structural Integration is a process of re-educating the body through movement and touch. The work focuses on the organization of connective tissue, otherwise known as fascia. Fascia surrounds and interweaves throughout muscles, giving them shape as well as supporting bones and organs. Practitioners use their hands slowly to relieve and release strains within this web of connective tissue. Through organizing fascia, bones and muscles are able to balance with one another more effectively and therefore create movements which are effortless, smooth and more efficient. For that reason, connective tissue that is flexible will enhance the function and movement of the muscular system.

As a result of the work, many people feel…

  • taller and more balanced
  • physically uplifted, lighter
  • more aware of their inefficient movement habits
  • more stamina as it takes less energy to produce the same movement
  • calmer and less agitated and/or more energetic
  • an increase in breath capacity
